Knights Knation Baseball is proud to announce the establishment of a KNIGHTS 4 LIFE SCHOLARSHIP FUND in honor of the late Mike Estrada.  Coach Mike Estrada was an integral part of the Knights organization since its inception and was a driving influence in Knights’ youth program, serving as Youth Affiliate Director until his untimely passing in May of 2022.  There is not a day that goes by where Mike’s life isn’t remembered.

Knights President Jack Cressend had the following to say about today’s announcement: “Since Mike’s untimely passing, we as a program have searched for ways to celebrate Mike’s life and his dedication to our program by ensuring that all Knights’ players, new and old, knew who Mike was and how he lived.  Cressend added, “Mike Estrada was the epitome of what our program is all about: Loyalty, love, toughness, courage, and most of all – faith.  He had such a profound impact on so many people.  We are incredibly proud to announce the establishment of the Mike Estrada Knights 4 Life Scholarship to further celebrate Mike’s legacy.  Mike was all about serving others, and I feel confident that this scholarship fund is something that would make him proud.”

The Mike Estrada Knights 4 Life Scholarship Fund will provide a graduating senior with a $5,000.00 dollar scholarship to help defray college expenses.  The recipient will be notified of his selection during the Knights’ annual summer opening weekend event.  The formal selection criterion as well as the process for applying and selection will be forthcoming and posted on the Knights’ website at https://knightsknation.com/.

In discussing Mike Estrada’s impact on the Knights’ players he coached, Director of Program Development, Mike Sepcich, summed it up in one word: “profound. I will always remember what one of our player’s parents wrote when describing Mike’s impact on their son: ‘on or off the field when my son faced a challenge, we would ask him – What do you think Coach Mike would say?’ as the barometer of how much trust and respect Mike gained with his player.”  Sepcich added “no doubt Coach Mike’s legacy lives on in his family with his wife Janie and their four sons Michael, Mason, Marshal and Myles, and we as an organization are happy to assist in honoring Mike’s legacy with the establishment of this scholarship.”

Program Advisor, Wes Carr had this to say ” Big Mike was a great example for all of us, in how we should wake up each day and go through life. His positivity was absolutely contagious, and no matter the circumstance, that never stopped. If you weren’t in a good mood, he could get you there in a matter of seconds.  If you were blessed enough to know him, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Mike lived loud and proud for Jesus, and he lived for his family. He always stood up for what he believed in and he led all of us by example. Mike stole this quote and he admitted it, but he always said to “Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words.”  That’s exactly what Mike always did. Be like Mike ”

The Knights’ mission is to provide its players with all the necessary resources to fully develop not only as baseball players but also as young men. Player development is the organization’s central focus to guide players to become the best version of themselves.
